Over the last several months a group of community members across Cook County have been sitting in Circle, gathered with a focus of bringing a Healing/Wellness Circle to the broader community. The original purpose of the Circle was to come together to process the recent trauma at our co-op and show up for ourselves and one another. We recognized the impact of this trauma as being widespread in the community. We also recognize that so much has transpired in our state and world since we began this process. Our hope and intention is to continue to hold these healing Circles with a broader focus. How that unfolds will be guided by each individual Circle held. Through the Circle we offer support and care for one another in a safe place to process and establish trust in moving forward toward a path of healing.
The origins of the healing circle are based on Indigenous principles of the tribal community, where fostering our relationship to one another is essential to our individual and collective wellbeing. Within this construct, it is believed that each and every person has a place within the tribe or circle. No one is above or below another; everyone has an equal level of importance with something to contribute.
The principles of the circle can be implemented in variety of formats to help strengthen a community’s values, encourage diplomacy, prevent conflicts, and restore individual and collective balance. The circle is upheld by adhering to the values as stated by the community. The circle is governed by consensus. While verbal communication is encouraged, community members participating can choose to remain silent. What is shared in the circle will remain in the circle, confidentiality is one of our most important foundations.
You are invited to participate in any of the upcoming circles or pass along this information to someone you know who may be interested in participating in the circle.
Thank you, Miigwech
Please note: Due to the sensitive nature and emotional content of this Circle, it will be an adults-only space. We also acknowledge that children are an important piece of this and our group hopes to facilitate a more child geared event in the future.
We meet at Two Birds Healing Arts Center, 211 W. Hwy 61 Grand Marais. All are welcome.
Circles will last approximately 2.5 - 3 hours.
